Amanda Bossard was just out high school when she began her marine biology education at Alaska PacificUniversity in Anchorage. Bossard's professional career started in 1999 when she was offered a position on the F/V Sunset. This 65 foot vessel, which was a halibut fishing vessel, was transformed to a salmon tender by Murat Ariatn. He is a commercial fisherman for more than twenty years. Bossard who is the wife of Aritan she has joined forces in order to claim their businesses. The two are proponents conservation of sustainable, renewable marine resources. In 2007, the mother of two children Bella aged 3 and Andre 1 Bossard and then relocating back to live in Philadelphia established a direct market wholesale distributor of seafood named Otolith. The husband of the business has a lengthy career in the fishing industry that often means they stay separated from each other for five months or longer. It is during this time that they are focusing on their environmental and financial goals. Bossard along with her two children Andre 10 and Isabella 12 make their annual return for a visit to Southeast Alaska as deckhands to harvest wild salmon during summer. In the course of two months, Bossard and her daughter Isabella will use hooks and lines to fish for the salmon they want to catch. Aritan will then sell their catch for processing locally.
